Tax Free Shopping?

Tax-free shopping (TFS) is the buying of goods in a foreign country and obtaining a refund of the sales tax which has been collected by the retailer on those goods. Travelers resident in a country outside the EU, can shop tax-free at shops outside EU airports. The traveler pays the VAT over goods in the shop, and can request a refund when leaving the European Union with the goods.

Who is eligible for Tax-Free shopping?

Did you know that if you reside outside the European Union you are entitled to a refund of the VAT (Value Added Tax) paid on your purchases? Just request the tax free regime at our stores and, on the day of departure, get everything taken care of at the airport. This way, you won't waste time with bureaucracy

Does global blue Tax-Free shopping apply to goods that are shipped, sent by courier or purchased online?

No. In general, Tax Free Shopping applies only to goods, which are purchased at affiliated Stores and exported in your luggage.

Can I use the purchased goods before export?

No. Purchased goods must be available for Customs Authorities in original package. Otherwise they can refuse to provide you with customs stamp.

Can I get a VAT refund on any purchases?

No. You must spend a minimum of €61.35 at the same store and on the same day. Also, your purchases will have to be presented at the airport, which means that all that is consumed here (at restaurants, hotels, etc.) or that is already in use, is non-refundable.

Do I have to fill out any documents?

Yes. First of all you need to ask for the tax free document upon your purchase.
Then, fill out the form with your personal details (full name, passport number, country of residence) and keep it together with the purchase receipt.

What do I need to do at the airport?

At the airport, if you have hold baggage, head over to the Check-in counter assigned to your flight and inform the staff that you have products to declare. They will give you a document so you can hand at Customs.

Afterwards, go to the Customs desk and present the tax free documents.
Customs will check the purchased goods and the respective documents. Therefore, we suggest that you bring the purchased items in a separate suitcase, which can be dispatched there by Customs.

If you don’t have hold baggage, you can go directly to Customs.
Next, head to the VAT refund operator's desk or to the submission boxes and present or submit the validated form.

How do I receive the VAT return amount?

There are two ways to receive the refunded VAT paid on your purchases:

Immediate reimbursement – At the counter:
The refund operator will verify the validated form and process the payment, in cash, credit card or international cheque.

Retrospective reimbursement - Via the submission boxes:
The reimbursement operator collects the form from the submission box, verifies its validation and processes the payment via credit card or cheque (sent to your home address).

I purchased goods in an EU member state and I am having transit / connecting flight to my home country from another EU member state. How do I obtain customs stamp?

For goods in your hold baggage get customs stamp at the airport, where you initially check in for your flight. For goods in your hand baggage receive customs stamp at your final point of departure from the EU.
