Omega celebrates 75 years of the mythical Seamaster with the launch of the Summer Blue collection, from which we highlight the Seamaster Planet Ocean model.
Launched in 1948 to mark the brand's 100th anniversary, the Omega Seamaster was inspired by designs made for the British Royal Navy. A watch that has always been associated with water resistance and, shortly after its launch 75 years ago, with the exploration of the seas, and which this year celebrates three quarters of a century of existence. To mark the anniversary, Omega presents a special anniversary collection, with seven classic Seamaster models in a new “Summer Blue” gradient tone, and a piece that marks the return of the emblematic Ploprof.
If the big news in this new Seamaster 75th anniversary collection is the return of the Ploprof, there are seven other models – all existing references – that have been renewed for the occasion. The general theme is nothing less than a summer blue tone, executed in a gradient way on the dials, but not only that. If we look closely, we see that the gradient effect moves, with the dials becoming darker with the depth rating of the watches. In other words, the more water resistant, the darker blue the dial is.
All new models feature markers and hands filled with a new Super-LumiNova light blue hue. The caseback of the new watches is decorated with a newly designed logo, which combines the Greek god Poseidon and his trident with two classic Omega seahorses – one with the historic 1956 design, the other with a contemporary look.
On these pages, we highlight the Planet Ocean 600M Summer Blue, a watch with a 39.5 mm steel case, capable of resisting 600 meters and equipped with a helium escape valve. The unidirectional bezel is made of dark blue ceramic with a light blue 60-minute scale. The dial is also ceramic, treated with PVD, with a gradient finish and completed with bluish hands and indexes filled with an exclusive light blue Super-LumiNova.
