Omega presents a new Speedmaster Moonwatch that debuts with a white lacquer dial.
Omega's connection to the Moon is well known and, over the years, the brand has presented several watch models that pay homage to our celestial neighbor. Now, Omega is adding a new watch to the Moonwatch line that focuses not on the Moon itself, but on the astronauts who visit it, with a white lacquer dial inspired by the spacesuits worn during spacewalks.
To enhance the visual impact of the Speedmaster Moonwatch's white dial, new black applied indexes, and the inscription “Speedmaster” have been added in red. The use of this color is a reference to the red commander's stripes found on astronauts' white spacesuits worn during extra-vehicular activities such as spacewalks. It is also a reference to one of the first examples of a Speedmaster with a white dial in Omega's archives, the Alaska I, a NASA prototype with a large red case and red chronograph hands.
Except for the new white lacquer dial, the watch is like the current generation of Moonwatches from 2021. It has a 42 mm steel case with a black anodized aluminum bezel with the famous “Dot over Ninety” marking. The new model also features the vintage-style five-link steel bracelet reintroduced in the 2021 collection, although it is also available with a perforated leather or rubber strap with a moon surface pattern on the inside.
At the heart of the new Speedmaster is the Omega Master Chronometer caliber 3861, the most modern iteration of the caliber 321. It is a manual-winding movement with a 50-hour power reserve and coaxial escapement and can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.
